Kaizen Training

What is Kaizen? Kaizen is a continuous improvement philosophy which translates into two broad Kaizen approaches:
  • Kaizen Blitz: Kaizen Blitz is typically a 2 weeks to 1 month event where an identified area/ opportunity of improvement is improved by the Kaizen team. A typical Kaizen team will contain everyone from the CEO/ Plant Head right down until the employees. This inclusive and organic improvement makes Kaizen very popular.
  • Kaikaku: Kaikaku also known as Kaizen is a radical improvement approach where the project team feels it is necessary to change the entire business unit operations. Often, this means re-engineering the process.
Kaizen Blitz and Kaikaku shouldn’t be confused with each other. Here are the differences:
  • Kaizen Blitz events may be initiated by the employees, while Kaikaku is often initiated by the management.
  • Kaizen Blitz events will result in a maximum improvement of 20% to the performance metric targeted, while Kaikaku typically results in improvement of 40-60%.
  • Kaizen Blitz events are not capital intensive, while Kaikaku are capital intensive events.
